HADES When the Greeks ruled Egypt during the Ptolemaic dynasty (332–32 b.c.), they associated the Egyptian god Osiris with their god of the Underworld, Hades. Unlike Osiris, who was a god of resurrection and hope, Hades was a god of terror and one to be avoided. His name eventually became associated with hell, the place of the lost souls.
