Fly overnight to Cairo to begin an extraordinary exploration of Egypt’s past
Explore Cairo's famous Egyptian Museum of Antiquities, which houses the greatest collection of Egyptian artifacts in the world; the sheer number of items is amazing. See the funeral mask of Tutankhamun (“King Tut”) — constructed from more than 200 pounds of gems and solid gold, and one of the most famous images of a person ever made —; in some cases, their hair and fingernails remain intact. This evening, attend a welcome dinner, and getting to know the other families who share your adventure.
Journey just outside Cairo to see the pyramids of the Giza Plateau, which have been luring visitors of all ages for more than 4,000 years. Appreciate them from the outside; then, see the interior of a pyramid as well. The short, narrow corridors are a perfect fit for young explorers. Moreover, the experience of being within an ancient monument is one your family will never forget. Just east is the Great Sphinx, the guardian of the pharaoh’s funerary monument. Learn about mummification when you visit the valley temple of king Chephren. Pause for a picture atop a camel within view of the pyramids, and pay a visit to a craft workshop to participate in pottery, engraving, or woodworking projects after lunch.
Fly to Abu Simbel, and explore the two temples built by Egypt’s longest-ruling pharaoh, Ramses II. Abu Simbel is one of the grandest sites ever built by the Egyptians, its towering statues carved from solid rock. Continue by charter flight to Aswan, where you board the luxurious Nile cruiser where you spend the next three nights. This afternoon, visit the granite quarries and the 1,250-ton Unfinished Obelisk — an outstanding example of ancient Egyptians’ stone-masonry skills.
Take a short motorized boat ride to the picturesque Temple of Philae on the island of Agilika, and sail to Kom Ombo, an unusual temple dedicated to not one, but two, gods: the sun god, Haroeris, and the crocodile god, Sobek. Continue cruising to Edfu and the Temple of Horus (the falcon god), the best-preserved temple in Egypt. Tonight, attend an Egyptian-themed costume party on board; you may dress in traditional galabeyas (desert robes), sample a lavish buffet of local cuisine, listen to music, and dance.
Cross the Nile to the West Bank’s imposing Valley of the Kings, a vast city of the dead. Discover the magnificent tombs and the hieroglyphs and paintings that cover their walls — they are as vivid as if they were painted yesterday. Explore the tomb of Tutankhamun, and look upon the ancient pharaoh himself. See the Valley of the Queens and the famed Colossi of Memnon, which — according to legend — used to make a strange “singing” noise at dawn. Continue to the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, the most accomplished of Egypt’s few female pharaohs. After a donkey ride along the Nile shore, see the graceful Temple of Luxor and the avenue of sphinxes, which leads to the spectacular Temple of Karnak. Upon arrival, marvel at the expansive, sandstone column-filled Great Hypostyle Hall. Later, join fellow travelers for a farewell dinner.
Fly back to Cairo, and explore the Citadel of Salah el-Din, an inspiring 12th-century medieval fortress. Stroll the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, a bustling open-air market that draws both locals and visitors alike. After a traditional Egyptian lunch, set out on a challenging scavenger hunt through the winding streets of the bazaar. With a money envelope and list of clues in hand, prepare to bargain with waiting vendors.

8 day/7 night tour of Egypt My fiancé and I recently went on an 8-day/7night tour of Giza, Aswan, Abu Simbel, Nile Cruise, and Cairo through Your Egypt Tours. It was an experience of a lifetime. From the minute, we landed in Cairo we were met by the company representative who whisked us through immigration and customs to our awaiting driver Mamdouh. He was excellent at answering all of our questions about what was in store for us over the next several days. Mamdouh was an expert at navigating the chaos that is Cairo traffic. We stayed at a wonderful hotel in Giza with a poolside view of the pyramids. The first night we did, the optional pyramid light show and it was the perfect low-key activity while we shook off the jet lag. While a little cheesy it was cool seeing the pyramids lit up at night. The next day we started our whirlwind tour. Mamdouh was our guide (the number 1 guide in Egypt) while we were in Giza and Cairo. He was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Throughout our adventures through the pyramids, Memphis, and Saqqara, Mamdouh always kept us expertly informed on what we were seeing. After Cairo, we took a short flight down to Aswan. In Aswan we met up with Ash (the number one guide in Upper Egypt), our guide for the next several days. Ash was incredible. He always made sure we were comfortable and introduced us to the wonders of ketchup and chicken flavored crisps. He really made us feel right at home while we were in southern Egypt. Ash was extremely knowledgeable as he took us through all the wonders of southern Egypt. We boarded our Nile cruise in Aswan and proceeded to sail to Luxor with a few stops on the way. The cruise itself was fantastic. We had a beautiful vessel with 5 star service. The waters of the Nile are extremely calm. It is hard to tell you are even on a ship. Throughout our trip, all of our accommodations were superb. Some of the best hotels I have ever stayed at. In addition, the service everywhere we went was impeccable. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Your Egypt Tours was also extremely flexible when it came to optional activities. We really wanted to go to Abu Simbel before the start of our cruise and while it took some creative scheduling, they were able to make it happen. It is 100% worth the 3 hour drive each way from Aswan. After our Nile cruise, we took a short flight back to Cairo where we once again met the Mamdouh duo to take us around Cairo. They were extremely accommodating by letting us drop our bags off at the hotel before starting our day. We hit the highlights of Cairo before ending the day in the Khan-el Khalili. We sat and had tea with Mamdouh in the market before setting off on our own to wander through the busy market and try our luck at finding some bargains. The hustle and bustle of the Khan was one of the most memorable experiences of our trip to Egypt. Cairo and especially the Khan really comes alive at night. Overall, it was a tremendous trip and we could not have been more pleased. We felt safe, welcome the entire time in Egypt, and would highly recommend going there to anyone. When you go, you cannot go wrong with planning your trip through Your Egypt Tours.
