Dendera is located about 60 kilometers north of Luxor on the west bank of the Nile River opposite the town of Qena. The temple of Dendera is one of the beautiful temples that stand out among the other structures in the South of Egypt. The temple was dedicated to the goddess Hathor, the goddess of maternity and love. The temple is distinguished by its well-preserved wall paintings and ceilings, its wide and huge entry, and detailed carvings. Many pieces of evidence show that many religious structures go back to the Old and New Kingdoms that reflect the holiness of the area. However, the current temple date back to the Greek period with many additions and expansions during the Roman era, with the birth house or (Mamisi) dating back to the late period. Your private guide will explain the important parts of the temple and basic reliefs.
