The place is called the Monastery of St Catherine and is also known as the God-Trodden Mount Sinai. This Greek Orthodox monastery is one of the oldest monasteries in the world. It preserves the relics of St Catherine. The monastery's actual name is the Monastery of the Transfiguration, but it later became associated with St. Catherine of Alexandria, a 3rd-century martyr whose head and hand was brought here for safekeeping in the 10th century. St. Catherine's Monastery became a major pilgrimage destination in the Byzantine Era and it still is today.
You will start your experience around 2:00 am, accompanied by the Bedouin guide, by climbing to the top of the mountain to see the first rays of the sun when it rises on the horizon. The exceptional view on the mount top is worth the climbing for three hours.
In the early morning, you will go down to have your breakfast, then you meet your guide to explain to you all the history of the area and the monastery. You will learn why this area is so important for Judaism. Christianity and Islam.
